He will give us a talk on its recent work on contact and inter-contact time analysis published at Autonomics'08 and JSAC's SI on Delay Tolerant Networking.

Visit of Florin Ciucu: Dr. Florin Ciucu recently took up a position as a post-doctoral researcher at University of Toronto.
He will give a talk on the state-of-the-art in stochastic network calculus (including the results from Florin's co-authored SIGMETRICS 2005 paper that received the best student paper award) plus concrete examples (e.g. end-to-end delay bounds for Markov-modulated processes).

Department evaluation: Site visit of evaluators at TIK
Two members of the evaluation team will visit our laboratory: Prof. David Hutchison (Lancaster University) and Prof. Daniel P. Siewiorek (Carnegie Mellon University).
In the morning of the 28th, the whole committee will be given an overview presentation of TIK by the professors. In the afternoon, the actual site visit will take place, during which the team will visit our offices and look at our posters.

Jörg Wagner receives the Fritz Kutter prize (around 3000 Euros) for his extraordinary semester thesis work on the dynamics of mobile ad hoc networks. It is the first time since the creation of the Fritz Kutter-Fonds in 1975 that a semester thesis work is awarded with this prize. Vincent Lenders and Martin May were his thesis supervisors.

Konstantinos Katrinis will have the Ph.D. defense of his thesis Multi-Source Support for Source-Specific Multicast. In his work, he extends the scope of the elementary SSM (Source-Specific Multicast) service to accommodate applications with multiple sources. He propose two novel approaches that take advantage of application semantics to improve perceived Quality of Service and operational costs in the multi-source sessions under study.
Prof. Dr. B. Plattner is the Ph.D. advisor of this thesis and Gisli Hjálmtýsson is the co-examiner.

Hasan Hasan will defend his Ph.D. thesis with the title: A Generic Auditing Framework for Compliance Verification of Internet Service Level Agreements. Hasan has developed an architecture, middleware, and a specification language for a highly reusable automated auditing framework to verify compliances of Internet service delivery against pre-defined service level objectives and a non-repudiable accounting of Internet service consumption which supports fairness for the service provider and the user as well as identity privacy of the user.
Prof. Dr. B. Plattner is the Ph.D. advisor of this thesis. Co-examiners are Prof. Dr. B. Stiller, Universität Zürich; and Prof. Dr. G. Carle, Universität Tübingen.
